I am honored and humbled that I have been selected as Teacher of the year at Swint Elementary School. As a child, I always wanted to be a teacher. Today my destiny has been fulfilled. I have an undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education and a Masters in Educational Leadership. I have over 15 years of teaching experience. I have taught in Atlanta Public schools, Fulton County Public Schools, and in Clayton County Public Schools. It is a privilege to serve as Swint Elementary’s 2016-2017 teacher of the year.

My philosophy of education is that all children are capable of learning regardless of their socioeconomic status.  I believe that all children should be provided a quality education in the least restricted environment possible.  An education is the most valuable tool that anyone can attain.  With a quality education, students are destined to be on the right path for success.  It is my belief that a major aspect of a quality education is whether the teacher is capable of educating the whole child to compete in today’s society.

In my classroom, I do more than instruct students.  I challenge my students to think outside the box and use the information they learn beyond the classroom.  I strive to make every lesson relevant to real life situations.  My students are challenged to use the skills they have learned to find solutions for various situations.  If students are taught skills and facts that are meaningful and relevant, they will develop higher level thinking skills. It is for these reasons, I make educating the whole child my priority each day.
