2019-2020 Teacher of the Year Mrs. Smith

Smith TOTY

Mrs. Sandy Smith

Hello, my name is Sandy Smith. I was born and raised on the beautiful island of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. I moved to Georgia shortly after graduating from high school to attend Paine College in Augusta, Georgia.  In Augusta I obtained my Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice and Sociology.  After graduating college, I moved to Atlanta in 2000.  I worked with the Atlanta Police Department for 10 years until I made the decision to change professions to pursue my dream of becoming an educator. I felt that becoming an educator would allow me to make a difference in the lives of children.  I ultimately earned my Master’s Degree and later became certified at Mercer University in Early Childhood and Special Education.

After graduating from Mercer, I began teaching at E.J. Swint in 2013.  I’ve had the pleasure of teaching Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and currently the 3rd Grade. I have a love for learning and hope to instill that same desire for learning in my students. By making my classroom a safe, fun and disciplined place for my students, I hope that they will enjoy coming into my classroom and learning something new every day. I feel that all children are different and require special attention in order for them to flourish. I will strive to be that for each of my students.  I am an educator who loves each child who walks in my door.  I give them not only an education, but also the passion to learn. I truly love making a difference each and every day.

It is indeed a great honor to be named as E.J. Swint’s Teacher of the Year for 2019-2020.
